SUMMARY:Intensive Programme \"Mathematical Models in Seismology\"
CATEGORIES:workshop
LOCATION:University of L'Aquila
URL:http://www.mathmods.it/ip/seismath/2013
DESCRIPTION:The Intensive Programme (IP) called \"Mathematical Models in Seismology - SeisMath 2013\" will consist of a set of short courses and seminars. Contributors will take into account methods\, modelling and simulations related to aspects of seismology. Although the need for newly developed mathematical modelling within seismology is very strong\, its clear identification as an interdisciplinary research/training context at a European level is still in progress. This programme aims to provide a relevant contribution to this process by exploiting the scientific competencies of the partners. The short courses will be taught by physicians\, geologists\, engineers and mathematicians. The programme is addressed mainly to MSc and PhD students in Applied Mathematics\, but also in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Applied Physics.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Computational Stochastics
CATEGORIES:workshop
LOCATION:Begegnungszentrum fuer die Wissenschaft\, Annweiler am Trifels
URL:http://compstoch2012.dfg-spp1324.de
DESCRIPTION:This workshop on Computational Stochastics will represent some of the recent developments in approximation and numerics for SDEs and SPDEs.

To foster the exchange of ideas we intend to only have about 20 talks\, while the number of participants will be higher\, and reports on 'work in progress' are very welcome. Additionally\, a number of applications from different fields of science and technology will be represented. One of our hopes for the workshop is to stimulate new links between theory and application\, so we will have plenty of time for the presentation of application challenges to which algorithm developers will hopefully respond with new ideas.

Presentations will only be one part of the workshop\, and therefore an active participation without giving a talk is very welcome.

Additionally, a number of applications from different fields of science and technology will be represented. One of our hopes for the workshop is to stimulate new links between theory and application, so we will have plenty of time for the presentation of application challenges to which algorithm developers will hopefully respond with new ideas.

Presentations will only be one part of the workshop, and therefore an active participation without giving a talk is very welcome.

SUMMARY:A Computational Approach to Harmonic Analysis
CATEGORIES:workshop
LOCATION:Uni Marburg

DESCRIPTION:Application oriented Harmonic Analysis is a flourishing field of analysis\, connecting hard analysis with questions of signal processing\, physics\, image analysis and other applied areas. SUMMARY:HIM Trimester Program on Analysis and Numerics for High Dimensional Problems : Workshop on High-Dimensional Aspects of Stochastic Problems
CATEGORIES:workshop
LOCATION:Uni Bonn
URL:http://www.hausdorff-research-institute.uni-bonn.de/high-dimensional-problems
DESCRIPTION:Partial differential equations related to high-dimensional parameter spaces are a major challenge in science\, engineering and finance. Here\, the well-known curse of dimension prevents an efficient treatment by standard numerical discretization for most of the problems. The resulting enormous computational challenges cannot be met merely by larger computers\, but require fundamentally new mathematical and algorithmic ideas. These can only be envisioned by an interdisciplinary attempt which involves modeling\, analysis\, stochastics and numerics. To this end\, we bring together leading experts from these areas.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Compressed Sensing\, Sparsity and Inverse Problems
CATEGORIES:workshop
LOCATION:TU Braunschweig

DESCRIPTION:When retrieving information from given data\, one crucial point is the choice of an adequate data model. One model that stands out as quite simple yet very important is the model which is based on sparse description of the data. This model has attracted huge interest in the past decade resulting in many breakthroughs in several areas ranging from pure and applied mathematics to computational sciences as well as many applications.
